Guides · Renewal
Of everything that can stall a renewal — fees, forms, deadlines — continuing education is the only piece that is entirely yours. It is also the piece that stalls the most renewals.
Texas: 6 hours of continuing professional education per year (all TSBPE licensees). Minnesota: 16 hours of DLI-approved continuing education per 2 years, at least 8 hours related to the State Plumbing Code. Other states run from none published to annual requirements in the teens of hours — your state's figure is on its ladder page and in the dataset.
Reinstatement after a lapse usually requires CE to be made current — every missed year at once, before the license revives. The plumber who let a license sit for 18 months owes the fees, the late charges and a block of CE, all before working again. Banked CE, by contrast, is invisible: it just makes renewal a form.
Take CE in the first quarter of each cycle, file the certificates with your hour log, and never let an employer's “we handle CE” be the only copy of the record. Your license, your file.
